Board the world heritage winning train from Poschiavo to ALP GRÜM and be surprised of the many panoramic turns, tunnels and bridges it takes to CAVAGLIA along the idyllic VAL PILA and passing by the grandiose scenery of the retreating PALÜ glacier where you can identify the moraines and admire the waterfalls of the glacier streams.
From ALP GRÜM you walk towards the igloo shaped, traditional CROT of SASSAL MASON and take the high route meandering along the steep grassy and at times impressively bouldery slopes, passing by mountain streams as white as milk and as beautiful as one imagines paradise. Finely you carefully have to cross the large scree avalanche of PIZ CARAL, walk between gigantic rocks, cross over the powerful glacier torrent on a coarsely made bridge out of a trunk and then you are there where the glacier just left the rocks polished and the rock fragments pressed together about two decades ago, where already moss, lichens and tiny flowers like Androsace, Houseleek and Saxifraga are blooming and a turquoise shining lake was formed, LAGH DA CARALIN reflecting in windless moments the last remains of the glacier and the shooting waterfalls.
On your way back you walk past one of the moraines to the ALPE PALÜ where the older, water-green lake lies and is used as a reservoir for the electricity production. You also see the castle-like power station imbedded in larch trees. You could stop by, taste the alpine agriculture products, cheese and dried meat made by Ilaria and Franco and then follow the CAVAGLIASCO stream to Cavaglia where the train takes you back to your transient home.
The tour is guided and information on glaciology, fauna and flora will be provided. Please wear hiking boots and have warm, waterproof clothes with you if needed. Provisions are always valuable. Modification of the tour might occur if the path or weather condition would require it.
